My son recently moved out of his sister’s room into a room all his own, so that means that G has her own room now. She was very excited to do some decorating. One of the things we came up with was to add some valances to the windows to jazz up the decor. We have shades, so there was no need to have anything truly functional. I saw these in the Country Curtains catalog and loved them. See the original here: http://www.countrycurtains.com/product/081989783+sweetwater+floral+lined+tie-up+valance.do?sortby=ourPicks&from=Search# . I figured I could make something similar for cheaper. So G and I went to work! G helped me cut, pin and sew. We finished two of them in a couple of hours (with interruptions even!). They were a fraction of the cost! I love how they turned out.
They are basically two big squares of coordinating fabric sewed together, wrong sides out. Flip it inside out, fold one end over, press, fold over again, press and top stitch to create the loop for the rod. Then put up the rod, add some ribbon, and DONE! Easy peasy lemon squeezy, as my kids would say!
