Explore a Trail – Pheasant Branch

The Madison area is an amazing area for trail exploring.  There are just so many, in so many different environments, it’s almost daunting to pick one to try!  One of my favorites though to explore with the kids is the Pheasant Branch Conservancy and the adjacent Middleton trails through town.  I’ve been on this trail multiple times.  When the kids were really little, I took the double stroller for a walk along the paved portions.   I’ve pulled a wagon along the same part and now take the big double jogger for a run along it.  For just walking and hiking, a whole other section of trails opens up….gravel, but well-groomed and great views.    One of the great things is that this trail system runs right through the heart of Middleton so you can really do so much with it.

Don't worry, there is a bridge to bypass the stream, but you need to explore the rocks at least once!

I like to park at the Copps, walk the loop along the paved trail (the one through the town by Donna Drive), over the many bridges (fascinating to the kids), and back through the neighborhood to the car.  I may or may not stop at Starbucks after!    Also, behind Copps is a lovely park called Middleton Hills South Park.  This park has a great play structure and a path through wetlands.  My daughter loves art and had a fun time stopping here on a walk to draw a masterpiece!
